Therapist Profile
Salam, My name is Mohammad Akhtar. I hold a university degree in Psychology and I am a qualified Hypnotherapist and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner. I am also trained as Professional Islamic Counsellor (PICSP)
Alongside my professional training, I have a university degree in Islamic Studies and I am a qualified Islamic Scholar and currently serve as a part-time Imam in local mosques here in Glasgow.

For the past three years, I have been supporting individuals and families with their day-to-day challenges, drawing on both psychological understanding and Islamic principles.
My approach recognises the importance of faith, spirituality, and personal values in emotional wellbeing, and I aim to provide guidance that is both professionally sound and Islamically grounded.

I take a solution-focused and positive approach to counselling. I believe that with the right support, reflection, and reliance upon Allah SWT, people are able to find clarity, strength, and practical ways forward. I listen carefully, without judgement, and work collaboratively with those I support to identify realistic solutions that align with their personal circumstances and faith.

My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and confidential space where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered — helping them move forward with confidence, balance, and peace of mind.

My Story
My journey into counselling and community support has been shaped by both lived experience and a deep sense of responsibility to serve others for the sake of Allah SWT. For few years, I felt drawn to understanding people — their struggles, their emotions, and the quiet burdens they often carry without being able to express them.

I studied Psychology many years ago and it started triggering in my mind that I should help those in need for peace of mind and emotional wellbeing, and for the same reason recently I qualified as a Hypnotherapist and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner. I also then got training in Professional Islamic Counselling. These studies gave me valuable knowledge, understanding & tools to help people.

Alongside my professional training, my Islamic education has always been central to my identity. As a qualified Islamic Scholar and a part-time Imam serving local mosques in Glasgow, I have sat with people in moments of vulnerability — after prayers, in quiet corners of the masjid, or during times of personal crisis. I have listened to stories of pain, confusion, anxiety, broken relationships, and spiritual struggle. These experiences taught me that emotional wounds and spiritual concerns are deeply connected.

For the past three years, I have been supporting individuals with their day-to-day challenges. Through this work, I have come to appreciate how powerful it can be when someone finally feels heard without judgement. This allowed me to combine psychological insight with faith-based guidance that honours both the heart and the soul.

My approach is solution-focused and positive. I believe that even in moments of difficulty, Allah SWT places within us the capacity to heal, grow, and move forward. I take time to listen carefully, to understand the person behind the problem, and to work together in finding practical, realistic steps that bring clarity and relief.

My intention is to provide a safe, confidential, and respectful space where individuals feel supported, understood, and valued. I see this work as more than a profession — it is a form of amanah and service. My hope is to help people reconnect with their inner strength, restore balance in their lives, and move forward with peace, purpose, and trust in Allah SWT.
